Resolutions — The Never-Do List
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016!
New Year’s is a time for reflection and a time for planning for the future. Resolutions abound!
But let’s explore the things you should never do — those unthinking activities that become a part of life without our realizing it. Like those HABITS we spoke of a couple of weeks ago. Resolutions are attainable as long as we don’t let robotic behavior get in the way.
The NElizabethLuz.com NEVER-DO LIST
12 Steps that help ward off cancer and other illnesses
MICROWAVES:
- Never microwave Styrofoam food and drink containers in any shape or form. The chemicals can cause cancer and will seep into your food or drink.
- There is more microwaved Styrofoam in places of employment than anywhere else… and I bet schools of higher education are a close second. Pass it forward.
- Never microwave plastic containers, especially those re-usable take out containers from restaurants — for the same reason.
- One article I read also said that those cheap plastic containers are surface-porous and harbor bacteria even if you wash them out. Using them for leftovers can result in you being exposed to that bacteria. Yuk. Best to just get rid of them — and don’t forget to recycle!
- Never believe vegetable plastic bags that say “Just pop into the microwave”, or Just place in a pot of boiling water’ as you will be exposing yourself to melted down chemicals. Not good for biological-you.
- Open them up and wash the contents before cooking.
PLASTICS
- Never re-use plastic water bottles. Their surface plastic is also porous and their safety ratings are established for single-use only. You can do without their bacteria and plastic carcinogenic chemicals.
- Never drink from hot plastic bottles (water, juice, etc.). This can happen by leaving the bottle in the car or in the sunlight. Again, the chemicals you end up drinking can cause cancer.
- Never cover food with plastic wrap and then bake it. (This is a common practice when baking lasagna.) You are baking plastic wrap chemicals into your food.
COLDS & FLU
- Never dab your eyes with a tissue you used to blow your nose. Flu viruses and bacteria enter through the eye’s membranes as well as via the respiratory system. And when someone sneezes near you, close your eyes!
- Never sneeze into your hand – sneeze into your sleeve to prevent spreading your cold or flu.
FRUITS & VEGETABLES
- Never forget to wash fruits and vegetables even if you don’t plan to eat the skin.
- The people who harvest our fruits and vegetables most oftentimes pee and sh*t in the woods! No e-coli wanted!
- Never start the new year off without first checking the Dirty Dozen list of the most contaminated fruits and vegetables. See also their Clean Fifteen.
CLOTHES DRYERS
- Never place ‘dryer sheets’ in the dryer when drying bed linen. You will breathe in the chemicals while you are sleeping.
- Also, make sure your dryer is properly vented. There are no emissions controls standards for dryers and the chemicals in dryer sheets and fabric softeners can cause cancer.
- Consider ditching the dryer sheets and fabric softeners. We can all do with a few less chemicals in our lives.
EXERCISE
- Never stop exercising. Any form of exercise has benefits, from stretching in the morning to taking a walk after lunch. Just keep moving!
